Money does grow on TREES.... World of Warcraft

Ok I was doing some thinking whilst sat at PC scratching my nose and picking my ass. and became amazed at these figures.

World of Warcraft which alot of u tree hugging, drawf loving and elf petters are playing as hit the well known figure of 8 million world wide registered subscribers.

So doing some simple maths......yes ok i used a calc cos im even simpler than these mathematics.

£8.99 per month x 12 months
9x12 = £108
now the game has been out 2 years roughly from its first release date so it could even be x24 but we'll work on 12 months.

108 quid x 8000000 million = £ 864000000 (864 million)

Now i know this figure cant be taken as solid, due to not all 8 mill users have had it a year but as i said some have been playing for upto 2 years, plus prepaid user cards (states) and the japs pay by the hour at a rough equivilent of £0.04 an hour.

BUT thats a fucking lot of money. I did a little search on a business profits declaration site, and Blizzard DECLARED (so probably made a little more) £200million profit just for the 2nd quarter of 2006 from subscribition costs.

I have no real comment on this, but wanted to mention it

Indeed Blizzard has nailed the market by making the game easily accesable and appealing to all walks of life.
Some may say a victim of their own success due to not having the capability to keep up with playerbase on servers. At opening day there was around 10 UK servers now theres foogin loads.

Blizz have cornered the market in the mmorpg's because of its ease to play for anyone from kids, newbs and experienced players. Others mmorpgs aim for arounr 100k subscribers as their games tend to be more for the niche market, hardcore gamers and super pc users.

But players get what they pay for as world is constantly updated, fixed and new stuff added.

Blizz are truely laughing all way to bank................................ 'til november!
