On COD 4 I don't think it will make a lot of difference, but games like Crysis it will because there built for DX10. But rather than go to Shitty Vista for DX10 there is a XP DX10 Hack which will allow you to run DX10 on XP.

There is loads of articles about DX10 and XP but it is a bit of work to get it working !!
