With the thermal probes I have I leave the plastic bit on so it gets ya case true temperature and not wind temperature !. As for the 4 probes, depends what case ya got and if the probes can be used to slide in between heat sink and chip on the graphics card or CPU and also maybe place one on your hard drive and leave another one sitting in the centre of your motherboard.
