whats happening with me old pc?

bought a new cpu for the old pc should now be min spec for the boy to play cod 4,
but when i pu t cpu in the heat sink fan dosent work and no post beep
when i put the old cpu back in the fan does work but still no post beep
whats happening is the mobo buggerd?

So your saying the heatsink and fan seat correctly onto the mobo but the fan doesn't work.
And when you put the old heatsink and fan it does work.?

If so the only thing I can think of is voltage levels for the fan but that should not be the case cos every fan works around the same voltage.

i can leave the old heatsink and fan connected but it wont run with the new processor
same with the heatsink and fan that came with the processor it will run with my old processor but not the new one!!
worst thing is though i cant boot up with either, no post beep just a black screen
tried changing the ram but no different so not that.
im thinking the new processor was doa and i buggerd my old one getting it out too heavy handed
but why would the fan work with one but not tother

I think you've already sussed it...sounds like your new cpu is fooked.

Or the CPU is not for that mobo...but i can't see you making that error.

yeh its the right one for the board, doa i recon and was too bloody heavy handed getin the old one out and killed that, ony paid 15 squid for it so not to bothered
