Q&A with Crytek at GC07 - New details emerge was created by FcUK_A
Several Crytek staffers took the time to have a Q&A session with community members at Games Convention 2007. While the interview is in German, it was summarized in French at Crysis-France. inCrysis has translated this into English and several new multiplayer, single player, and general info details have emerged.
Multiplayer
* Voice over IP (VoIP) is now a confirmed feature.
* Both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 players will be able to connect to a DX10 server. Balancing will be done by the server.
* It will take much more server load to run a DX10 server than a DX9 server.
* Statistics and ranks gained during one map will not be persistent to the next.
* Time of day will be handled automatically by the server. The server admin can also manually adjust the time.
* Server admins will also be able to regulate parameters to activate natural disasters.
* Max players is 32 and it's not possible to play as the aliens, but you do fight over their technology.
Single Player
* The time of day and weather will be automatically modified at certain key areas of the game.
General Info
* There are other games in with "Cry" in their title in development and the studios in Budapest and Kiev will support Frankfurt during production.
* You must be 18 in order to purchase the game in Germany.
* The ever-expanding alien shield will dynamically change the world. The water is not dynamic, but there are several models to choose from.
Modding
* The SDK will be available with the game launch on Nov 16th.
* You cannot remove the nanosuit.
* The destruction of vegetation is an encoded function, so it's able to be modified.
* Models are easily imported into the game as long as guidelines are followed to make them compatible with the engine.
