The relatively high-pressure liquid is passed through the pressure reducing valve, to the low pressure side of the system. The liquid instantaneously boils as it is now at a low pressure, and turns into a vapor. This stage is usually referred to as the ‘flash off’ process.

The action of flash off is continued into the evaporator, with the necessary heat energy being taken from the circulating fluid (endothermic), which becomes cooler. This process is continually repeated.
